Updated: Jul 14, 2022

The Harvard Data Science Initiative (HDSI) congratulates and introduces Harvard Master’s students Esther Brown and Yi-Ting Tsai as the Summer 2022 HDSI Public Service Data Science Graduate Fellows. During this internship, Brown and Tsai will gain experience applying responsible data science to address social challenges at not-for-profit and public sector organizations.

Brown is a Master of Science candidate studying data science at the Harvard Institute of Applied Computation and Science. As a HDSI Public Service Fellow, she looks forward to solving problems by building ML/AI systems and advancing public service data science at Harvard. Brown is also an incoming PhD student in Computer Science at the School of Engineering at Harvard University.

Tsai is pursuing a Master’s in Health Data Science at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where she has applied her skillset to build and evaluate prediction models for maternal health problems in Zanzibar. During the summer, Tsai will continue working with D-tree International and the Zanzibar Ministry of Health (ZMOH) to transform maternal healthcare in Zanzibar by integrating prediction algorithms within a digital health system.

The HDSI is proud to welcome Brown and Tsai who are passionate about tackling public health issues and promoting data-driven decision-making at Harvard and beyond. The HDSI awarded a $10,000 stipend to the HDSI Public Service Fellows in order to support their living expenses during this unpaid internship.
